KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY

Kairos PRISON MINISTRY INTERNATIONAL
Kairos Prison Ministry International is a lay-led interdenominational Christian ministry in which volunteers bring the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to those impacted by incarceration both inside and outside of prison walls. Since its inception in 1976, Kairos has grown to take men, women, and youth on a journey that demonstrates Christ’s love and forgiveness. Over 30,000 volunteers in 37 states and nine countries serve this ministry in over 500 locations. Participants go through an initial Weekend program which is then followed by Continuing Ministry, which is why Kairos is known as the prison ministry that always comes back.

KAIROS INSIDE
Kairos Inside is held in both male and female prisons, where positive and negative leaders within the prison’s population are brought together for a 3 ½ day Weekend designed to build a Christian community inside the institution. During this Weekend, a structured program including a series of talks, meditations, music, and discussions is held. For many participants the Kairos Weekend creates the desire to become a Christian or to continue their spiritual growth such as the Kairos Graduate in this video.
To build the Christian community inside the institution, Kairos volunteers come back with Continuing Ministry, such as weekly “Prayer and Share” meetings and monthly “Reunions” of the entire Kairos community within the prison. The women at Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women are a great example of how effective Kairos is.

KAIROS OUTSIDE
Kairos Outside offers a comfortable non-judging retreat for women with a loved one who is incarcerated, to support each other and share their journey of having an incarcerated friend or relative. These women draw on each other for strength, forming a Christian community.
The 2 ½ day program is based on a series of talks by volunteers designed to address the pain of enduring separation from their loved one in prison as well as the judgment of others in their community. The transformation is powerful and long lasting as told by this Kairos Guest turned volunteer.
Kairos Outside holds Reunion Meetings and SWAP (Share, Witness, Account & Pray) Groups after the Kairos Outside Weekend to foster spiritual growth and assist in the process of “doing time” along with their incarcerated loved one. To learn more about Kairos Outside and how you can get involved, please visit the Kairos Prison Ministry website, or download the Kairos Outside brochure.
If you know any woman aged 20 years and up whose life has been impacted by incarceration, refer them to Kairos Outside by visiting www.kairosoutside.org.
KAIROS TORCH
Kairos Torch is a program that works with youth ages 25 and under who are incarcerated in juvenile facilities or prisons. Kairos Torch provides a safe place for youthful offenders to engage their reasoning skills in seeking balance for their lives, while removing their masks so that the real person can shine forth rather than whom they are pretending to be.
The 2 ½ day introductory Weekend introduces Participants to what life can be like in a loving, caring, and trusting environment through the demonstration of Christ’s unconditional love. Kairos challenges Participants to be vulnerable and break through the walls they have built up around themselves. The impact of this program can be incredible as evidenced by testimonial videos such as Corey’s.
After the Weekend Christian retreat is followed by Continuing Ministry that includes one-on-one mentoring of the youth by a Kairos volunteer as well as monthly group Reunions with the Kairos community.
To learn more about how you can get involved, visit the Kairos Torch website, or download the Kairos Torch brochure.
